My collection incorporates designs with a range of neutral tones from light sandy shades to deep olive greens. Deserts were the main inspiration, which includes a variety of textures from grains of sand, rocky formations, and engravings on pyramids. Some of my fabrics mimic nature's creations, such as crinkled wovens, precise crochet knits, and knit chainmail. I created this collection of lightweight clothing with the intent to be worn in the desert.

What was the inspiration
behind your collection?
I got my inspiration from pyramids and dunes. Basic elements of nature happened to open a collection of design ideas in my brain. I also got inspiration from Kanye West's brand Yeezy, which solely consisted of neutral colored clothing.
What is the name of your collection and how did you come up with it?
My collection is titled "In the Dunes" which was inspired by desert lands due to including a variety of textures from grains of sand, rocky formations, and engravings on pyramids.
Why did you choose the fabrics you did?
I chose my fabrics based on two trends I decided to focus on: neutral colors and textures. The majority of my fabrics are either pebbled, crinkled, or precisely knit. I chose these with the intent to stick with the trends I decided to focus on, but also to ensure that they look amazing on the runway.
Who is the target audience/customer for your collection?
The target customer for my collection is women over the age of 20 who enjoys wearing earthy tones, loves nature, and breathable clothing. The range of rich colors and elevated silhouettes allows my customer to be ready for formal occasions.
This collection taught me to just go for it. I typically overthink a lot of decisions before making them. But, throughout the process of making this collection, I allowed myself to do things I had never done before and experiment with a variety of design options while worrying about the execution later. After doing a lot of experimentation, I decided on the most intentional design choices for the message I want to convey with my collection.
What did you learn the most while creating your collection?
Who or what inspired you to pursue fashion?
I was inspired to pursue fashion because my mom allowed me to dress myself for school every day since the age of 6. Also, I used to sketch clothing during indoor recess during elementary school. Throughout high school, I began following fashion blogs on social media and decided to apply for fashion design at several universities. I finally realized I stayed consistent with my interest in fashion throughout my childhood, and I decided it would be best to pursue it as a career rather than pursue something I'm less interested in.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to find another internship and begin styling.

How has your personal style evolved over the course of your education?
My personal style has greatly evolved over the course of my education. I dress for comfort the majority of the time, but I have learned how to accessorize a lot more over the years. This has definitely encouraged my decision to become a stylist.
What is one piece of advice you wish you could give to your freshman self?
The main piece of advice I would give my freshman self is to practice working on my skills in between any academic breaks, such as spring break, summer break, or winter break. I typically only practiced my skill during the academic year and decided to take risks whenever I was assigned to design anything with complete creative freedom.
