Eden Danae
My life. Experiences within higher levels of care and the feeling of always being seen, adjusting, and performing, even when alone, became the foundation for this work. This collection shows the art of hiding it all until it becomes too much, and where to go from there.
What is the name of your collection and how did you come up with it?
What was the inspiration
behind your collection?
I called it "Spotlight Syndrome" to capture the feeling of existing under constant visibility, where being seen becomes something that burdens and feeds you.
Why did you choose the fabrics you did?
I used satin, charmeuse, color shifting (sparkly) organza, glitter jersey knit, a metallic interlock, and voile. I chose fabrics that draw the eye to push the idea of being watched.
My target audience is a fictional kpop star "Mirra", or their parent company like JYP or HYBE.
Who is the target audience/customer for your collection?
It was a lot of learning how to trust myself as a designer and how to better explain what I want and the intentions behind my designs. I think I have also learned how to better take critiques of my work and factor those into my final designs rather than disregarding them.
What did you learn the most while creating your collection?
Who or what inspired you to pursue fashion?
My dolls, as a kid I loved watching "Barbie A Fashion Fairytale", I'd imagine myself as a designer and make little outfits from scraps of my parents' old clothes, tissue paper, and duct tape.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
I plan on working in the bridal industry, I have a love for love and want others to share in that.
I would love to have my designs in Betsey Robbinson's shop (a local salon) or Kleinfeld but eventually I would like something of my own.
How has your personal style evolved over the course of your education?
What would be your top brand to work for?
I think it has, I used to wear oversized clothes to hide myself and not draw anyone's attention. Now I'm more willing to be loudly myself, pink hair, sequins, and I finally broke out my old object earrings.
What is one piece of advice you wish you could give to your freshman self?
Trust yourself. You were made for this, and those little mistakes or an off day doesn't negate that (also press everything it'll save you in the long run).
